Marta Richardson writes: Greetings! I’m just sending out an email to the people who helped make last year’s Sphinx Virtuosi concert such a huge success. Thank you for all you did! On October 3rd the CMAC project in conjunction with the United Arts Council of Greater Greensboro and 17 Days will present the Harlem String Quartet. This ensemble is absolutely wonderful – high energy, fantastic sound and fun to see. Once again UNCG is allowing us their Recital Hall and tickets are very affordable. [more...]

Mae Mai – Classical Music Across Cultures

I just got a twitter subscription from Classical Music Across Cultures. I’m interested in seeing what this is about. The website will go live in a few hours so we’ll get to see more of what this is all about though judging from their facebook page is more of an outreach program for Classical Music to ethnic minorities (primarily African American and Latino children), which I can fully support even if it doesn’t exactly fit in with my own particular focus. The Classical Music Across Cultures project is positioned to reach thousands of underserved yet gifted African American and Latino children, and encourage them to participate in changing the cultural stereotype of classical music. 88.5 WFDD Triad Arts Up Close – Peeler Open School
Greensboro native Marta Richardson teaches the violin to nearly 200 elementary students at Peeler Open School for the Performing Arts. Her student ensemble will be performing April concerts at Ben and Jerry Free Cone Day, Gateway Gardens and Onstage! The music heard on today’s show included a performance by the Peeler School’s string ensemble and Songs of Water featuring Marta Richardson on violin. Press Release – All Black & Latino Orchestra Coming to Greensboro

GREENSBORO, NC – Greensboro’s inaugural 17 Days Festival will include a concert with the internationally renowned, all Black and Latino chamber orchestra, Sphinx Virtuosi featuring the Catalyst Quartet. The conductorless ensemble will perform at Aycock Auditorium on Friday, October 7th at 7:30PM as part of their 2011 National Tour. Press Release – Peeler Open School Annual Playathon

GREENSBORO, NC – Friday, June 3rd at 1:00pm, Marta Richardson will bring all of her violin students at Peeler Open Elementary School together for their annual Playathon. The group of 120 students will perform together to celebrate a year of hard work. This year’s event is even more exciting because the students will bring their own small donations to help raise money for Classical Music Across Cultures – The CMAC Project!
